The Real Madrid Soccer team is also called the Real Madrid Club de Futbol in Spanish. This professional football (or soccer) team plays for Madrid, Spain. The Real Madrid Soccer team is deemed among the most successful of 20^th century football clubs due to the various titles they have won since they were founded as the Real Madrid Club de Futbol in 1902. Home games for this team (whose nickname is simply Real Madrid) are played at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium within Madrid. Real Madrid is also fairly unique among football clubs since only its members (dubbed socios) are the owners of the team. Real Madrid snared the Best Club of the 20^th Century award in year 2000 from the FIFA worldwide soccer competition organization.

Atletico Madrid

Club Atletico de Madrid (or Atletico Madrid as it is fondly nicknamed by Spanish fans) is another Madrid-based football (or soccer) team which plays home games in the Vicente Calderon Stadium. The stadium can accommodate 55,000 spectators at maximum capacity. They too are a winner of a Spanish football team (like the other which is Real Madrid.) The Atletico Madrid team was founded back in 1903 and has been known under other names since then before it settled on Club Atletico de Madrid as its formal name. Governmental politics has colored the history of both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid in the past – for instance, Real Madrid was associated with the dictator General Franco while Atletico Madrid is considered a football club of the masses.
