How Has Democracy Changed Madrid?

Democracy was only restored to Madrid in 1975, meaning the city is relatively young as far as democratic politics is concerned. The current King of Spain is Juan Carlos I, whose succession was approved by the dictator Franco himself. To be correct about it, Juan Carlos was able to transform Spain into the democratic constitutional monarchy it is today.

The King risked angering supporters of authoritarianism by doing so, and eventually became a non-ruling monarch.
